(1)     In normal times:

          Inspect the floor/building daily for the prevention of fire risks through:

l             Monitoring the sources of danger causing fire such as worn out electrical wirings, fuel contaminated pieces of cloth, heating systems and disposal of flammable materials and wastes and monitoring ensuring that flammable liquids are not surpassing the admissible limit and advise the Safety Officer of any risks he might come across.

 

l             Ensure that the emergency exits and the escape corridors and routes leading thereto are valid for use and free from obstructions and that the emergency exit lights are sufficient in the public corridors and staircases.

 

l             Ensure the soundness of fire resistant doors provided with automatic door closers, if any, and that they are always closed and shall prohibit the placement of any devices for fixing such doors positions.

 

l             Ensure that the fire fighting equipment are placed in a visible location (hose reels and manual fire extinguishers) and in operable condition.

 

l             Explain safety instructions to the occupants of the floor/building he is in charge of especially to the new comers.

 

l             Maintain an updated list of the numbers and personal details of the persons within the area of his jurisdiction.

 

l             Participate and contribute to fire drills.

 

(2)     In emergency cases:

 

l             Ensure that all emergency exit doors are opened.

 

l             Evacuate the floor/building occupants in an organized manner to the specified assembly points while reminding them to avoid using the elevators.

 

l             If the emergency case occurred within the floor/building under his jurisdiction, he shall immediately report the same to the Safety Offices or to the control room, if any.

 

l             Ensure that the floor/building has been completely evacuated from its occupants and advise the Safety Officer of the same.

 

l             Feel the closed doors to check for the presence of fire inside while opening them with due care after making sure of the absence of any person who can close such doors again.

 

l             After ensuring the evacuation of the occupants of the floor/building to the assembly point and the absence of any risks which might be reported, he shall:

 

¡        leave the place immediately and close all doors on the floor/building under his jurisdiction.

 

¡        head to the predetermined assembly point and check the presence of all the persons he is responsible for in the assembly point and advise the assembly point in charge of the completion of the evacuation of the section under his responsibility and hand over a list of names of the persons he is responsible for to the Assembly Point Officer.

 

¡        upon request, assist the Assembly Point Officer.

 

¡        upon the announcement that the incident was over, he shall direct the occupants of the floor/building under his jurisdiction to return to their places by normal means.

 

¡        submit a written report on the remarks and the obstructions met during the incident as soon as possible to the Safety Officer (if there were any remarks).
